On October 29, 2024, the URBACT IV Program Monitoring Committee selected 116 urban good practices. Among the four good practices selected from Romania is the one proposed by the Intercommunity Development Association of Satu Mare County, titled “Social Inclusion of Disadvantaged Groups: Integrating Vulnerable People, Especially the Roma, Through Education and Empowerment.” Good practices are initiatives recognized for their positive impact on communities and their ability to be implemented and adapted in other European cities.
The good practice proposed by the Intercommunity Development Association of Satu Mare County includes projects implemented by the Association over the last four years, focusing on social inclusion of disadvantaged groups and facilitating access to education and skills development for vulnerable people, including the Roma community. Through an integrated and participatory approach, the projects aimed to develop individual and community capacity, thus contributing to the reduction of social and economic marginalization of disadvantaged groups.
According to URBACT, a good practice must be impactful, participatory, integrated, relevant, and easily transferable to other European cities. The selected practices, including that of the Intercommunity Development Association of Satu Mare County, will benefit from broad promotion through URBACT’s communication channels in the 2024-2025 period. They will also be presented at the URBACT City Festival, scheduled for April 8-10, 2025, in Wroclaw, Poland. The festival will serve as a platform for collaboration and experience-sharing for European cities, aiming to establish partnerships and transfer these successful practices.
The good practice label represents a recognition of the positive and significant impact of the projects implemented by the Association in the field of inclusion of disadvantaged groups. The Intercommunity Development Association of Satu Mare County reaffirms its commitment to contributing to social inclusion and sustainable community development, offering good practice examples that can inspire other European cities.
