Through investments in medical infrastructure, modernization of dental offices, promotion of preventive education, and fostering long-term cooperation, the 4YOURSMILE project contributes to a healthier future for children living in the cross-border area between Romania, Hungary, and Ukraine.

Dental health is a fundamental right. Yet despite this, thousands of children in the Romania–Hungary–Ukraine border region still face significant barriers in accessing essential dental care. The 4YOURSMILE project, coordinated by the Satu Mare County Intercommunity Development Association, aims to change this reality by ensuring equitable access to dental services for all. This major initiative is implemented in partnership with the Zakarpattia Regional Development Agency (Ukraine), the City of Nagykálló (Hungary), and the Romanian towns of Ardud and Livada.
By enhancing cross-border cooperation in healthcare, 4YOURSMILE will establish new dental offices, upgrade existing facilities, and launch public awareness campaigns. The project aims to reduce disparities in dental care access, especially for vulnerable children who are disproportionately affected by the lack of proper medical infrastructure.
Key activities and objectives
✅ Establishment of two modern dental offices in Satu Mare County (Ardud and Livada)
✅ Modernization of three existing dental offices (Uzhhorod – Ukraine, Nagykálló – Hungary)
✅ Involvement of over 3,000 children in dental prevention and oral hygiene programs through cooperation with schools, community centers, and medical units
✅ Large-scale awareness and education campaigns for children, parents, and teachers
✅ Training and exchange programs for dental professionals to strengthen cross-border collaboration
The total project budget is EUR 672,450.10, of which EUR 605,205.07 is financed by the European Union through the Interreg VI-A NEXT Hungary–Slovakia–Romania–Ukraine Programme. The project will be implemented between 1 March 2025 and 28 February 2027.

Through investments in dental offices, prevention activities, education, and professional training, 4YOURSMILE lays the foundation for a fair and sustainable healthcare system in the cross-border region. Healthy habits developed in childhood lead to better health in adulthood, reduce long-term costs, and improve overall quality of life. At the same time, the project strengthens regional cooperation, proving that joint efforts between Romania, Hungary, and Ukraine can bring about real change in public health.
