The official launch event of the Planning4U project took place in Nyíregyháza, marking a key step in cross-border cooperation between Hungary, Romania, and Ukraine. The project aims to contribute to the sustainable development of the border region and support local communities in addressing institutional and economic challenges.
The initiative is coordinated by the National Strategy Research Institute and involves partners such as the Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg County Government, the Tisza European Grouping of Territorial Cooperation, the Transcarpathian Frontier Local Governments’ Association, and the Satu Mare County Intercommunity Development Association (ADI Satu Mare).
The Planning4U project, with a budget of €600,327.63, will be implemented between January 1, 2025, and December 31, 2026, with funding from the Interreg VI-A NEXT Hungary-Slovakia-Romania-Ukraine 2021-2027 program.
ADI Satu Mare’s Role and Project Objectives
The project aims to address institutional capacity gaps in the border regions and respond to the challenges posed by Ukraine’s administrative reform, the COVID-19 pandemic, and the Russia-Ukraine conflict. Through development strategies and impact studies, the initiative will strengthen economic and social relations while preparing Ukraine for European integration.
The Satu Mare County Intercommunity Development Association plays an active role in the project, particularly in developing strategic plans for three border municipalities in Satu Mare County. These strategies will contribute to sustainable growth, institutional cooperation, and better access to EU funding opportunities.
Expected Outcomes and Long-Term Impact
The key outcomes of the Planning4U project include:
✔ 14 development plans for microregions in Transcarpathia
✔ 3 strategic development plans for municipalities in Satu Mare County
✔ Training sessions for local authorities on project management and grant writing
The kickoff event in Nyíregyháza provided an opportunity for project partners to strengthen collaboration and work together towards advancing the development of the cross-border region.
