The Satu Mare County Intercommunity Development Association and the town of Újfehértó (Hungary) jointly organized the transnational meeting of public procurement experts between 27–29 May 2025. The event, held under the GenProcure – Gender Inclusion in Public Procurement project, brought together representatives of partner cities, experts, and members of local support groups.
GenProcure is one of 30 projects funded through the URBACT IV Programme. Running from June 2023 to December 2025, it supports nine European partners in developing integrated action plans on gender-responsive public procurement. The project’s methodology involves a series of transnational and local knowledge-sharing and learning exchanges for procurement professionals.
The first day of the meeting was hosted in Újfehértó (Hungary), while the second and third days took place in Satu Mare. The aim was to explore practical ways of integrating gender equality into procurement processes, with a focus on implementing the action plans developed by each partner.
Procurement experts from Satu Mare County presented the Romanian legal framework, results of public procurement expenditure analysis, and examples of good practices in integrating social, environmental, and gender aspects into procurement. The event in Újfehértó and Satu Mare marked a new step in strengthening a European network committed to promoting gender equality through smart public policies and procurement. The collaborative atmosphere and exchange of experiences demonstrated once again that real transformation begins with dialogue and mutual learning.
The main objective of the GenProcure project is to explore how public procurement can help reduce gender inequalities. The project spans 30 months and will culminate in the development of a Local Action Plan on public procurement. The Satu Mare County Intercommunity Development Association is one of nine partners, alongside the following public authorities: Vila Nova de Famalicão – Portugal (lead partner), Zagreb – Croatia, Koszalin – Poland, Messina – Italy, Újfehértó – Hungary, Alcoy – Spain, Umeå – Sweden, and the Department for Development and International Projects of Zenica-Doboj Canton – Bosnia and Herzegovina. The project is funded through the URBACT IV Programme, with a total value of €847,160, of which €599,611.75 is EU funding.
