The DECRISIS project officially launched in Satu Mare
On July 8, 2025, the official launch of the DECRISIS project – Development of Children’s Rehabilitation Institutions, ROHU00350 – took place in Satu Mare. This cross-border initiative aims to improve access to mental health services for disadvantaged children in Satu Mare County (Romania) and Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg County (Hungary), through infrastructure modernization, specialist training, and the strengthening of cross-border institutional cooperation. The specific objective of the project is to create optimal conditions for therapy and rehabilitation activities, enhance the capacities of educational and medical staff, involve parents in the rehabilitation process, and develop a joint long-term cooperation plan.
The event was organized by the Satu Mare County Intercommunity Development Association, as lead partner, and brought together project partners, local authorities, journalists, and professionals working in the education of children with special needs. In his speech, Pataki Csaba, President of the Satu Mare County Intercommunity Development Association, emphasized the value of cross-border cooperation and the importance of building an integrated support system for children with special needs, stating: “The DECRISIS project is more than just a project – it is a shared commitment to a society in which no child is left behind.”
The DECRISIS project is implemented in partnership with the Special Education Centre of Satu Mare and the Educational Centre of the Nyíregyháza District in Hungary, with the Satu Mare County School Inspectorate as associated partner. The initiative focuses on the modernization of infrastructure for therapy and emotional support, by creating a Modular Therapy Island at the Satu Mare Special Education Centre and modernizing and equipping the therapy rooms at Bárczi Gusztáv School in Nyíregyháza. In parallel, 16 rural school medical offices will be equipped with modern devices, and 50 teachers, therapists, and specialists will benefit from training sessions in modern intervention methods. Parents will also receive training to improve child care practices, and pupils from the two partner schools will participate in summer camps.
By training parents to continue therapy at home and developing a database of stakeholders in the mental health field, DECRISIS proposes a profound shift in the approach to supporting children with special needs. In addition, a Joint Cooperation Plan will be developed for the next five years to strengthen cross-border collaboration and ensure the sustainability of interventions.
The project has a total budget of 477,999.90 EUR, of which 382,399.91 EUR is funded by the European Union through the Interreg VI-A Romania–Hungary Programme, and will be implemented over a 24-month period.
The official launch marked not only the beginning of a series of concrete activities, but also the affirmation of a shared vision: to build a more empathetic, connected, and efficient system in which every child has access to support, inclusion, and a dignified life.
