On Wednesday, 14 January, in Satu Mare, the closing conference of the INCLUSIV.EDU – Towards an inclusive intercultural educational system in the cross-border area – project took place, implemented through the Interreg VI-A Next Hungary Slovakia Romania Ukraine Programme.
The project was implemented by the Satu Mare County Intercommunity Development Association, as leader, in partnership with the Bereg Microregion Multisectoral Intercommunity Association from Hungary and the Edelweiss Charity Association from the Zakarpattia Region, Ukraine.
The general objective of the project was the improvement of inclusive and intercultural education in the Satu Mare Bereg Zakarpattia cross-border area, through activities dedicated to students and teachers from the three countries. During the implementation period, diversity and integration camps were organised for students, cultural workshops and activities, puppet theatre performances, as well as workshops and experience exchanges for teachers. Within the project, a practical guide was also developed for teachers in the field of intercultural education.
During the closing conference, the results of the project were presented, emphasising the increase in awareness regarding the importance of intercultural education, the development of teachers’ competences and the strengthening of an educational environment open to diversity and inclusion. At the level of Satu Mare County alone, over 900 students and 20 teachers were actively involved in the implementation of the project. The project was implemented in the following 6 partner schools in Satu Mare County: “Csury Balint” Gymnasium School Agriș, “Gellert Sandor” Gymnasium School Micula, “Vasile Lucaciu” Gymnasium School Apa, Gymnasium School Poiana Codrului, “Fenyi Istvan” Gymnasium School Căpleni and Gymnasium School Terebești.
Present at the event, Pataki Csaba, president of Satu Mare County Intercommunity Development Association and the Satu Mare County Council, underlined the strategic role of such educational initiatives. In his opinion, cross-border projects that support vulnerable and marginalised groups contribute to the strengthening of social cohesion, to creating equal opportunities for children and to facilitating dialogue between different cultures from the same region. He stressed that investment in intercultural education is an investment in the future of local communities, in a context in which solidarity and mutual respect become essential elements of development.
The INCLUSIV.EDU project was implemented between 20 January 2025 and 19 January 2026. The total budget of the project was 299,944.26 EUR, of which 269,949.83 EUR represented the contribution of the European Union through the Interreg VI-A Next Hungary Slovakia Romania Ukraine Programme.
